Different Types of Fire Extinguishers
Putting your fire safety knowledge in practise and making sure that your fire extinguishers are regularly checked and scheduled for maintenance are one thing and properly putting them to practise is a crucial discipline. But most of those disciplines would go to waste if we are not using the right type of fire extinguisher against the right kind of fire hazard.
We will outline below the different types of fire extinguishers, as well as the different fire hazard classes where these different types should be used at. Again, fire extinguishers had always been our first line of defence against the dangers of fires but we also need to always keep in mind these different types to achieve maximum efficiency and safety.
All fire extinguishers that are certified according to AS/NZS 1841.1:2007 Standards should have a coloured band to indicate their type. This also applies to wheeled fire extinguishers.
Knowing which type of fire extinguisher to get for your homes or establishments and to use against the right kind of fire is just as important as knowing when to have them inspected and scheduled for maintenance.
This guide regarding the different types of fire extinguishers and fire classifications all follow the Queensland Fire Safety Regulations.
